As former Ambassador of Bulgaria to UNESCO (1991-1997), I would like to join my voice in support of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences being one of the most distinguished research centers not only in Central Europe but in Europe as a whole. I had the honour to work for the Organizing committee of the World Conference on Science organized by UNESCO in 1999 in Budapest. We all were impressed by the extraordinary achievements of the Hungarian fundamental science exceeding by many orders of magnitude the modest dimensions of the country on the map. To destroy this jewel will be a crime equivalent to the destroying of the crown of Szent Istvàn.
With my full sympathy
Dr Simeon Anguelov
Bulgarian Ambassador to UNESCO (1991-1997)
